True Freedom in Christ: No More Emotional Eating

I used the think freedom was doing what I wanted to. Being free to do whatever I felt like doing sounded good, but it got me in trouble. I chased excess food to soothe my emotions and fill places that only God can satisfy. This excess food kept me from drawing closer to God and caused weight gain. My understanding of freedom needed changing to include the freedom Jesus gives me. Galatians 5:13 is, “For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one anotherRead More →

Fatigue was one of my excuses for overeating. In the past, I would eat “for energy” when I was tired. Stuffing food down my body never made up for lack of sleep. I ended up feeling stuffed and sleepy. Matthew 11:28 is, “Then Jesus said, ‘Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.’” Holy Bible, New Living Translation, 2015 The rest Jesus gives me is different from sitting on the couch, watching TV, and snacking. When I seek God, He calms my overstimulated brain. God refreshes my body even when I am unable toRead More →

My weight journey has been full of more ups than downs. Every time I lose weight, it just comes back. Over the past 2 years, the scale has not moved no matter how little I eat or how much I exercise. After looking honestly, I realized I was eating good during the week, but using weekends and holidays as one long cheat day. I undid all my progress by eating what I wanted. I had to change my mindset that it is a lifestyle change and not a diet. I also prayed and asked God for guidance on the best foods to eat. Proverbs 25:16Read More →

I went on a trip for Spring Break. I fell and injured my arm while hiking. Our return flight was delayed and later cancelled. Since we tried switching flights, our luggage made it back home to Texas while we were stuck at the Atlanta airport. My emotions controlled me that day and night. I wanted to be home and felt angry, sad, and exhausted. John 16:33 is, “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. You will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.” Holy Bible, Christian Standard Bible, 2017 Troubles follow me throughoutRead More →

Stop Worry over Food

I have “food noise” constantly in my brain. Thoughts about food pop into my mind throughout the day. I worry about food that will be served when I go to someone’s house or to a restaurant. Sometimes I obsessively plan what I will eat to stay on track. When I continually think about food, I am distracted and tempted to overeat. Luke 12:29 is, “Don’t strive for what you should eat and what you should drink, and don’t be anxious. Holy Bible, Christian Standard Bible, 2017 Jesus teaches us not to worry but to trust in Him. These uncontrollable thoughts about food in my mindRead More →

About this Blog:

Food once was my stronghold, source of comfort, and solution for my problems. I learned that God is what I am hungry for and began to trust in Him.  God is transforming my mind as described in Romans 12:2, so I eat healthier without following a diet. God has inspired me to tell my story in this blog. This blog is only possible as I rely on God for guidance and strength. I pray readers can trade a dead-end relationship with food for deeper relationship with God.
