I enjoy working out. It relaxes me and I have the satisfaction of doing something good for myself. Everyone knows that to lose weight, one must eat less and exercise more. I have been know to invent excuses for overeating, including believing I deserved extra food for burning calories in the gym. Since I stuffed my mouth after working out, my weight stayed the same, and even went up. I even stopped going to the gym since it did not help me lose weight.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 is, “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” (Holy Bible, New International Version, 2011). Since I am a child of God, my body belongs to Him. It is not mine to indulge as I choose to. As I have grown closer to God, I no longer want to eat excess food. My excuses to indulge are revealed as lies to get me off track.
God guides me to be a better steward of my body. This includes getting in better physical shape by working out. He gives me the strength to hit the gym on days I would rather go home and take a nap. God has changed me so I enjoy working out and no longer want to reward myself with food. As I continue to follow Him, I trust the weight will keep falling off.
