Take time to Eat

Take time to Eat

I speed through my days, trying to cram in as much as possible.  I have so much to do that sometimes, I do not have time to eat.  My solution is eating fast, so I can get more things accomplished.

When I eat fast, I am not paying attention to how much I am eating.  I end up eating too much.  After I have moved on to the next activity, I notice the stomach discomfort from eating too much.  Psalm 27:14 is “Wait patiently for the Lord.  Be brave and courageous.  Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”   (Holy Bible, New Living Translation, 1996, 2004, 2007).  God wants us to wait for Him and be patient.  This is the opposite of stuffing as much activity in a day as I can.  Instead of busyness, I need to learn stillness before God.  When I take time in the mornings to focus on Him, I center my day around God.  Instead of being a race, these days are less stressful.  I focus on only tasks He would have me do.  My “to do” list will always have things that remain undone.  By focusing God, I accomplish the ones that need to get done.

With this focused and shorter task list, I find my day is less stressful.  This helps me to take time to enjoy my meals. Fast eating is also not good for my body.  Even if I do not overeat, my stomach works harder to digest food I did not take time to chew completely.  I also make a mess when I eat fast, having food stains on my clothes.  I enjoy my food when I slow down to enjoy it and only eat what my body needs.
