Stressed Eating

I have been under a lot of stress lately.  School has started and my once lazy days of summer are long gone.  Not only can I no longer relax all day, but I have stress popping up from all directions.  My floors are covered with a layer of dust and grit.  I have two errands that are about 30 miles away in opposite directions.  I find myself trying to cram errands, work, and time for my family in a too small block of time.  So, I reason, maybe it is okay for me to use food to relieve this stress.

My stress is still the same after eating candy and chips. My stomach feels bloated and sour.  Worst of all, I have blown it again. I have been only eating when I am hungry and eating healthy foods most of the time. So, I don’t have to eat a lot to feel like I have had too much junk food.  Deep down, I know that eating does not solve problems.  Usually, when one problem in my life is resolved, another one comes along to take its place.

John 16:33 is, “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace.  You will have suffering in the word.  Be courageous!  I have conquered the world.” (Holman Christian Standard Bible, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2009)  Understanding that this world is not perfect and that I will have to go through unpleasant times helps me to cope better with life’s downs.  I also know I can depend on God for strength and wisdom to walk through stressful situations.  With God’s help, these little things do not have to upset my entire day so nothing else gets done.

  1. All of us moms of teenagers seem to be going 100 different directions. I am like you, I meet myself at the door coming and going. I decided my floors can wait, my kids will only be at home for a short time. I get in the bad habit of not eating at all using the excuse that I am too busy. Then I make bad food choices.

      Thanks Elizabeth for the reminder that my kids are only at home for a short time. I try to balance taking care of my family with taking care of me. It is tough, but God gives me the strength do make better food choices.

  2. I am a stress eater. And a DrPepper drinker. The bloating after eating unhealthily is really annoying!! You’d think I would stop 😐. I am gonna borrow your scriptures and use them this week! 😊 I even like carrots and water. I just grab a soda and chips or crackers. 😞
