If worrying was an Olympic event, I would win gold. Sometimes I concentrate on problems and plan “what if” situations that result in the worst possible ending. I know that worry never solves the real issue. In my mind, I am working to solve a problem, but in reality, I waste time when I worry.
Philippians 4:6 is, “Don’t worry about anything; instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” (Holy Bible, New Living Translation, 1996, 2004, 2007). God commands me to pray instead of worrying. When I worry, I focus on the problem. I accomplish nothing. Many times, I dream of impractical solutions and endings that never happen. I drive myself into an emotional mess, trying to solve my problem with worry. When I get emotional, I run to food.
The solution is to pray instead of worrying. When I pray, God calms my mind. Most things I worry about resolve on their own, without me having to lift a finger. God is more capable than I am at making things turn out. Other times, He clears my mind so I can rationally think. God guides me to find the right action to solve my issue. I have found I when I try to do it myself, I end up frazzled with worry. God is more capable of solving my problems. When I pray instead of worrying, He provides true solutions.
