Without God in my life, I am powerless over food. I have tried for many years to eat healthy on my own and failed miserably. Trying to diet and avoid fattening food only made me feel guilty that I could not control my food intake. Little by little, I have surrendered my food issues over to God. I took forever to realize I don’t have to do it alone. I can trust in God, rest in Him, and lean on Him for strength to quit overeating for good.
Colossians 2:13 is, “You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. The God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins.” (Holy Bible, New Living Translation, 1996, 2004, 2007). God has not only forgiven my sins, but also has changed me. I no longer want to sin by stuffing my body with food. However, I am not perfect and face temptations to overindulge. Deep down, I want the freedom to eat anything I desire.
When I surrender my food intake to God, He is in control. Then, I am free to enjoy all foods without overeating. No longer do I have to stress out about what to eat and not eat. I savor small amounts of my favorite foods while eating a variety of healthy foods. I have the strength to stop eating once I feel full. Since I have to eat every day, I make a daily choice to submit my eating to Him. This keeps me on track and helps me quickly get back on track if I mess up. I am grateful to serve a powerful, loving, and forgiving God who gives me life.
