Temptations creep into the corners of my life. When I am closer to God, these attractions have little appeal for me. Busyness, fatigue, and stress, weaken me. I give in to temptation, “just this once”. When I give in once, it is harder to resist and easier to fall the next time. After failing so many times, it is difficult to find restraint for the next temptation. I lose motivation and want to give up. I get discouraged, and stop losing weight. My clothes start to get tight. To get out of this rut, I must seek God.
Hebrews 12:1-2 is, “…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…”(The Holy Bible, New King James Version, 1982). “Running my race” is living my life how God desires. For me, this includes my approach to food, only eating food my body needs. I keep my eyes fixed on Him by praying and reading my Bible. Sometimes, I go through the motions and read my devotion without letting it sink in. When I fail to connect with God, I want to give up.
I draw closer when I use my morning time to seek Him instead of completing my devotion. If I am tempted to eat, I can pray instead of reaching for food. I need to remember that God is always there to help me overcome temptation. He will help me stay motivated and continue to run the race of healthy eating.
