The old saying, “God does not give you more than you can handle” is not true. The truth is God desires for me to depend 100% on Him. It seems like the deeper I go with God, the more troubles I face. Before I was a strong believer, many problems were caused by my actions. Also, I created stress by imagining worse case “what if” scenarios that never came to pass. Ever since I have started this blog, I have had what I think is more than my share of trials to overcome.
Isaiah 43:2 is, “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” (Holy Bible, New Living Translation, 1996, 2004, 2007) . No matter what I face, God gives me the strength to overcome. The bible is full of stories, like Joseph in Genesis 37-45, where God allows good to come out of evil actions. I believe God allows difficulties in my life so I can grow.
As my faith grows, I know to depend on God in troubled times. I have learned that there is the actual problem, and my reaction to the situation. When I am stuck in the problem, I tend to stress out and usually end up eating. This week, I did turn to God instead of food. However, I am not perfect and my eating is not perfect. After a week of stress, I did have a semi sloppy eating day yesterday. Today is a new day to depend on God for strength instead of food. Only God helps me to overcome trials without overeating.
