Eating on vacation

Eating on vacation

Vacations and holidays are a time to overeat, or so most people think.  After all, when on vacation, we indulge in relaxation and rest.  Indulging in food seems like a natural part of being on a vacation. Vacations are break from reality and day to day stress, but I should never take a vacation from obedience. I am talking about obedience to God instead of obedience to the diet.  Being on a diet and being on vacation do not go together.  The one time I went on a cruise, I packed larger clothes that I needed on the last days.  Most people see vacations as the time to take a break from dieting.

But, with this God centered, no diet plan of eating, I easily continue my obedient eating.  I started this post poolside from our beach resort.  I was beginning this blog and writing posts to publish once I went online.  This was this first vacation where I did not overeat. Best of all, I enjoyed the relaxing time and did not spend time thinking about food.  Isaiah 1:19 is “If you are willing and obedient, You shall eat the good of the land”. (The Holy Bible, New King James Version, 1982)  Being obedient to God means I continue to not eat one bite of food beyond full.  As soon as I feel fullness approaching, I put my fork down and stop eating.  God has changed my eating so I want to eat healthy foods, even on vacation.  The first meal we had on the way to the beach was fried foods, a shake, plus a dinner salad.  I felt bloated and sluggish the rest of the day, and I can tell my body would rather have lighter fare. God has shown me to that my body needs healthy food to function.  Without the constant food thoughts running through my mind, it has been easy to eat healthy on vacation and not overeat.

Now it is Labor Day, the official last day of summer.  We had homecoming last week at school, a week of dress up days, and a candy thrown from the floats parade.  I got into the candy stash from the parade two days ago and caught myself after 3 pieces and thought, “What am I doing?”   In the past, I would have continued eating and and slipping until my pants no longer fit.  Today, I know all I need to stop eating and turn my heart back to Him. This “only eating food my body needs” way of life is permanent and will have ups and downs.  Doing this blog helps me to be accountable, and thank you for reading, I hope I can encourage you.  Have a Happy Labor Day!
