Delight in the Season

Delight in the Season

Christmas is my favorite holiday.  I love the reason for this season and enjoy spending time with people who are special to me.  In the past, my celebrations centered around food.  This year, I am working to make sure my focus is on God.  The past month, I increased my amount of Bible reading and spent extra time praying.  Today, I enjoyed a holiday meal, including dessert without overeating.   It is only December 20, and I have more Christmas meals to enjoy.  I am looking forward to enjoying everything about Christmas, even the food.

As long as I keep my focus on Him, I don’t fear overeating.  I must remain vigilant and not grow complacent.  Ephesians 6:10 is, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.”  Ephesians 6:18 is “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests…be alert and always keep praying for all the Lord’s people.”  (Holy Bible, New International Version, 2011, emphasis added).  I cannot pray once, and expect to never be tempted by food.  Food will always be a temptation, especially around the holidays.  I know I must remain alert.  If I take my attention off of God, my mind will drift to food. It has taken me many years to realize I cannot take a break from God.  I am looking forward to a wonderful Christmas centered around His birth and not food.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you!  I am taking a break from my blog posts and will resume on January 3, 2018.
