When all is well in my world, I enjoy food without overeating. My true test is only eating food my body needs when under stress. If I am tired, worried, or rushed, I need to turn to God to keep from slipping with food.
Psalm 18:35 is “You have given me your shield of victory. Your right hand supports me; your help has made me great.” (Holy Bible, New Living Translation, 2015). I cannot fight food on my own. For many years, I tried positive thinking and willpower. No matter how hard I tried, I remained bound to food.
God gives me victory over food during tough times when I trust Him instead of food. Unlike food, God helps me work through issues that drive me to eat. I handle trials better while my focus is on Him. God walks with me so I pass trials without overeating.
