Changing my Focus

Changing my Focus

I need to eat to survive.  However, excess food tempts me from every corner.  My busy life is full with spring sports and school events.  There are more evenings away from home, so we eat out.  Eating out usually means large portions of unhealthy food.  People bring deserts, donuts, or candy to share at work as a “good deed”.

I think just need willpower to stay away from these temptations.  Early this week, I realized my eating had become sloppy.  I was eating beyond full and my stomach was bloated, to the point of discomfort.  It was a downward spiral I decided to stop.  I cried out to God for help.  He answered by showing me my priorities had shifted away from Him.  I was still reading God’s Word, but was going through motions. During my quiet time, I entertained stresses and focused on daily goals instead of Him.  Crazy how a shifted focus can change an outcome.

Psalm 119:2 is, “Joyful are those who obey his laws and search for him with all their hearts.”  (Holy Bible, New Living Translation, 1996, 2004, 2007).  Instead of eliminating temptation, I changed my focus back to Him.  When I seek Him with all my heart, I no longer want excess food.  This new focus helps me to walk by temptations without giving in.  This week, I will search for God instead of food.
